Linear walk from Garsdale Station to Kirkby Stephen Station, taking in Sails, Little Fell, Hugh Seat, Gregory Chapel, High Seat and Nine Standards Rigg. One of the finest fell walks in England.

Fountains Fell (668m)

Distance: 12.5 km (7.75 miles)
Time Taken: 6 hours
Start: Quarry car park to the NW of Malham Tarn, SD 883 672
Weather: cold, sunny, blustery with great visibility
Height gain: 315 metres
Map: OS Explorer OL2
Grid Ref: SD 865 716

Route: Malham Tarn (quarry car park), road northwards to Tennant Gill Farm, then Pennine Way to the top of Fountains Fell. As reached boundary wall along the top of the fell, headed off path alongside this wall in a SW direction to reach the summit Cairn. From the summit, followed a way marked path in a SE direction passing Fountains Fell Tarn to reach the Pile of Stones (marked on the map) at SD 869 704. From there we followed the boundary wall roughly southwards along the top of the broad ridge all the way to the Trig Point (593m), from where we turned E then SE back to the road.

Weather: Clear, sunny spells, 20mph winds, windchill on summits - 8C
Height Gain:700m

ROUTE:
Sedbergh, Settlebeck Gill, Soolbank, Crook, Arant Haw (diversion to Bland Ridge), Rowantree Grain, Calders (reached summit at sunset, night navigation off from summit). From Calders, returned to Rowantree Grains then descended to Hobdale Scar, Ashbeck Gill and followed narrow path contouring below Crook back to Settlebeck Gill.
